Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko and Director General of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Fabio Azevedo held a meeting dedicated to the preparation of the FIVB 2022 World Volleyball Championship.
The meeting was timed to coincide with the first inspection visit of the International Volleyball Federation to Russia, taking place from April 19 to 23 and related to the preparation of the Volleyball World Championship, the right to host which Russia received in 2018.
A significant part of the preparatory process, which began back in 2018, has already been completed. Work on the preparation of the championship continues, at the same time, the FIVB is communicating with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on the issue of holding the World Cup in Russia in the light of the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of WADA and RUSADA.
The meeting was also attended by Presidential Aide Igor Levitin, Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin, President of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation Stanislav Shevchenko, Director General of ANO Volleyball 2022 Organizing Committee Roman Stanislavov.
“We had a very productive meeting with the FIVB. We note significant progress in the preparation of the FIVB 2022 World Volleyball Championship, which will be hosted by ten Russian cities, ”said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
“I can highly appreciate the results of today’s meeting in the Government. We are in close dialogue with WADA, but it is important to continue the comprehensive preparation of the World Cup. It is obvious that Russia is coping with the assigned tasks quickly and professionally, keeping its finger on the pulse in work in all areas. We are following progress with cautious optimism, ”concluded Fabio Azevedo.
