On April 20, Russia celebrates National Donor Day. Thanks to donated blood, thousands of lives are saved in the country every year. To save others, employees of the Russian Emergencies Ministry also give a part of themselves to save others, who help the cause of salvation both on duty and at the call of their hearts. Currently, due to the difficult epidemiological situation, medical institutions are in dire need of additional supplies of donor blood.
Blood donation campaigns were held throughout the country today, and in many regions employees of the emergency department took part in them.
For more than 20 years, Elbrus Bedoev, head of the 11th fire and rescue unit in Beslan, has been saving lives in the fire brigade. And on the National Donor Day, the rescuer became an honorary donor of Russia. The first time Elbrus donated blood back in his student years, in 1993. Since then, the fire fighter has become a regular guest at the blood transfusion station. For 46 donations, he donated more than 20 liters.
Pavel Chudinov, an honorary donor of Russia and St. Petersburg, the commander of the 43rd fire and rescue unit in the city of Gatchina, Leningrad Region, regularly donates blood. In 2017, he also became a bone marrow donor to save the life of a child with cancer.
Event under the motto “Give blood – save life!” has become traditional for the Kostroma employees of the EMERCOM of Russia. This year it is even more significant, since the employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia are vaccinated against coronavirus infection, and their antibodies can play an important role in the lives of other people. A mobile blood transfusion station arrived at the General Directorate building to take blood. Its employees note that each time there are more and more donors from the Russian Emergencies Ministry. Today more than fifty people have become participants in a noble mission.
In Kemerovo, the donor action took place in the Kuzbass center. It, along with citizens and employees of other law enforcement agencies, was attended by employees of the Main Directorate of EMERCOM of Russia in the region. The participants passed all the necessary tests and were examined by a transfusion doctor. “Firefighters and rescuers, responding to operational events every day, know firsthand that the need for donated blood is always great. Therefore, if there is an opportunity not only to help people with professional actions, but also by becoming a donor, then you need to do it, – says Nikolai Saidikov, head of the department for the use of unmanned aerial systems.
Many of those who come today to the donation point for blood and its components in the Jewish Autonomous Region do it regularly. For example, Alexander Doroshenko, deputy head of the department for organizing the operational service of the crisis management center, who has been engaged in donation since 2003 and is actively working to attract donation among his colleagues. Today he came to donate blood 110 times!
