On April 20, President of the Republic of Chad Idris Debi Itno, who had held this post since 1990, died as a result of injuries sustained during a clash between the Chadian government units led by him and the armed opposition group Front for Change and Harmony in Chad.

I. Debi Itno was a prominent statesman, enjoyed authority both within his country and abroad. During his tenure as head of state, he made a significant contribution to the advancement of Chad along the path of stable socio-economic development, contributed to the maintenance of peace and security on the African continent, and fought decisively against terrorism and extremism in the Sahara-Sahel region.

I. Debi Itno was a consistent supporter of strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia, contributed to the expansion of bilateral ties between Moscow and N’Djamena in various fields.

We express our deep condolences to the family and friends of I. Debi Itno, as well as to the entire Chadian people.
