On April 22, a member of the Board, Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia A.V. Yakovenko, as the national coordinator for preparations for participation in the UN Summit on Food Systems (New York, September 2021), held a telephone conversation with the Special Representative of the FAO Director General for conducting dialogues by David Nabarro.

During the conversation, A.V. Yakovenko spoke about the course of the national dialogue dedicated to the Summit, which has been taking place in our country since the end of November last year with the participation of the widest possible range of organizations involved in the food sector. Special attention is paid to taking into account the views of legislative bodies, as well as young people. Next week, another event will be held at which the Russian position, with which our country will speak at the world forum, will be discussed.

D.Nabarro said that 103 UN member states are already participating in the preparation of the Summit, while regional associations are playing an increasingly active role in these efforts. According to him, the organizers expect that when presenting national positions, the member states will set out both a common vision of issues related to food security and characterize the state of affairs in their countries, as well as the tasks that need to be solved by common efforts.

Alexander Yakovenko drew the interlocutor’s attention to the fact that the Russian side expects that the Summit will ensure that our approaches and proposals are fully taken into account.

In conclusion, an agreement was reached on the continuation of contacts, including during the pre-summit, which will be held in Rome from 19 to 21 July 2021.
