The Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation held talks in Baghdad with Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq Fuad Hussein, and then met with Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi and separately with President Barham Saleh. On the eve of the meeting of the Russian-Iraqi Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, which is to be held this year in Moscow, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov met with the co-chairman of the commission – Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq Fuad Hussein.

The parties discussed the dynamics of trade, joint projects between Russia and Iraq in the field of energy, as well as cooperation in the field of industry. Separately, the interlocutors dwelled on the possibilities of expanding the export of Russian equipment and pharmaceutical products, increasing the range of supplies of agricultural products, as well as implementing joint projects in Iraq. “Iraq is one of the key partners of Russia in the Middle East region,” Yuri Borisov recalled. – We are interested in the early settlement of conflict situations in Iraq and neighboring Syria, the complete eradication of the terrorist threat represented by ISIS and other groups. We are in favor of ensuring the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Iraqi state. We attach great importance to the development of the entire range of bilateral relations, we pay the greatest attention to issues related to the restoration of the Iraqi economy and the intensification of cooperation in such priority areas as energy, industrial cooperation, transport, agriculture and military-technical cooperation. “

After the talks, Yuri Borisov met with President of Iraq Barham Saleh and separately with Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi. “The negotiations with the top officials were held in a constructive spirit, touched upon key projects, both existing and promising,” noted the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
