On the eve of the celebration of the Day of Fire Protection in the St. Petersburg garrison, the names of the most powerful firefighters from the banks of the Neva were found out. For two days, they competed in performing a complex of combined power and speed loads, which they had to perform in full firefighter gear and in the shortest time. In total, 160 representatives of the fire and rescue units of our city took part in the “Strongest Firefighter” competition.

The venue for the event was the educational and training sports complex of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia in St. Petersburg. For this, a special platform with a tower was equipped on its territory, which was required for performing exercises.

On the way to the finish line, the fire fighters had to overcome the rise with a hose line to the site of the fourth floor of a special tower, lift a 19 kg hose roll from its top, move a 73-kg iron beam with a sledgehammer, then run with a fire hose filled with water and send a stream of water into target. At the end of this most difficult distance, it is necessary to transfer a conditional victim – a dummy weighing about 70 kg. Competitions were held in four categories – individual championship and personal championship for firefighters over 40 years old, tandem and team competition.

As a result of a tense struggle, the winner of the competition was the team of the Fire and Rescue Team of the Kronstadt District, the second place was taken by the team of the Fire and Rescue Team of the Primorsky District, and the honorable third place went to the Fire and Rescue Team of the Central District.

It should be noted that the St. Petersburg fire and rescue garrison made a unanimous decision to dedicate the past competition to the memory of Ilya Beletsky, a fire fighter who died in the line of duty – while extinguishing a recent fire in the building of Nevskaya Manufactura JSC. As part of the opening ceremony of the event, the firefighters also paid tribute to their comrade in arms, honoring his memory with a minute of silence.
