They will serve both practical and decorative functions.

Special houses for bees will appear in the capital’s forest parks, they will be installed by employees Mosprirody

Such houses fulfill both practical and decorative functions. Firstly, they help attract bees, which pollinate plants and fight pests, and secondly, they become more and more popular landscape objects and original elements of garden design. In Europe they are called insect hotels.

Not only bees can live in the houses, but also lacewings, ladybugs, wasps, hoverflies, ground beetles and other insects. Caterpillars, for example, will be able to climb there before turning into pupae.

In 2019, such houses appeared in the Kuzminki-Lyublino Natural and Historical Park. They are similar to birdhouses, but without the front wall. The side walls and roof serve as protection from wind and precipitation, inside the house was filled with dry stalks of nettles, horse sorrel, Sakhalin buckwheat (Reinutria), sticks and twigs of recycled Christmas trees. Muscovites brought them as part of the citywide environmental campaign “Christmas tree cycle”.

In addition to “hotels” for bees, birdhouses, titmouses, half-nests, owls, shepherds are installed in all natural areas and in yards. In total, 300 new bird houses will appear in the parks this spring. After they are hung on the trees, Mospriroda specialists start to observe and record which birds live in them, when they have offspring, when the chicks begin to get out of the nest.
