By the May holidays, 12 million tulips will bloom in the capital, the bulbs of which were planted in the fall of last year on a total area of over 200 thousand square meters.
The planting of about four million viola seedlings began, and in late May – early June, 35 million annuals will appear in Moscow. Then, depending on the weather, more than 1.2 million perennial flowers will continue to be planted, among which roses and peonies prevail.
The concept of themed flower beds will be dedicated to the Year of Science and Technology. The seedlings will be planted in the form of the inscriptions “Science” and “Technics”, the figures of DNA, atoms and gears will be depicted from flowers. This is how the flower gardens will be decorated along Rublevskoye and Varshavskoye Highways, on Gagarin Square, at the intersection of Nikoloyamskaya Embankment with Zemlyanoy Val Street.
All flower seedlings for the city are grown in the greenhouses of the State Budgetary Institution “Ozelenie”.
“The number and assortment of plants is determined at the design stage of flower beds in accordance with the concept and artistic solution of the flower arrangement,” noted Pyotr Biryukov. “This takes into account not only the appearance of the plants, but also their quality – all varieties are adapted to the climatic conditions of Moscow and are hypoallergenic.”
