An important component of our interaction with Mexico City is the coordination of approaches in international organizations. Our positions on the main problems of the regional and global agenda are close or coincide. Russia and Mexico are committed to strict observance of the norms and principles of international law, to strengthening the central role of the UN and its Security Council, and they are in solidarity on issues of inadmissibility of interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, non-recognition of coups d’état as a method of changing power, attempts to unlawfully pressure some states on others.
We cooperate constructively in various multilateral formats – primarily the UN (Mexico was elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2021-2022, the UN HRC for 2021-2023 and ECOSOC for 2021-2022), as well as the G20 and APEC. Mexico traditionally supports Russian priorities within the framework of the UN General Assembly, in particular, countering the glorification of Nazism, international information security, measures to ensure transparency and confidence-building in outer space and not being the first to place weapons in outer space.
The visit is intended to give impetus to the consistent strengthening of Russia’s interaction with regional integration associations, including the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States – CELAC, in which Mexico is the rotating chairman until 2022.
