On April 26, the opening of the IV All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference “Perspective directions of scientific research on the history of the penal system of Russia” took place in Moscow. The event was organized by the Center for Educational and Educational Work and the Research Institute of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.

The opening of the conference was attended by: Acting Head of the Federal State Institution of Scientific Research Institute of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, Candidate of Sociological Sciences Sergei Ovchinnikov, Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in Moscow Sergey Moroz, Head of the Public Relations Center of the Federal State Institution of Central Scientific Research of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Ilyas Yermolaev, Head of the Federal State Institution of Central Scientific Research of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Alexander Pirogov, Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service TsOUVR FSIN of Russia Alexander Sharun, First Deputy Chairman of the Council of the All-Russian Public Organization of Veterans of the Penitentiary System, Doctor of Law, Professor Salikh Shamsunov.

According to the established tradition, the conference venue once again became one of the oldest penitentiary institutions in Russia – SIZO-2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in Moscow, formerly known as the Butyrka prison. Employees of educational organizations of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, the Research Institute of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, the Central Museum of the National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation, the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, the Pacific State University, the Ural State University, the Research Institute of Hygiene and Health Protection of Children and Adolescents took part in the conference.

The speeches and scientific reports made at the event covered many aspects of the pre-revolutionary and Soviet periods of the history of the penitentiary system.

On April 27, within the framework of the event, a discussion was held on the topic “Sources on the history of the penitentiary system: problems of attribution and analysis.” The venue for the discussion was the exposition “Hard labor and exile” of the Museum “Underground Printing House 1905-1906”, as well as Central permanent exhibition on the history of the penitentiary system of the Russian Federation.
