Museum-Estate “Izmailovo” invites you to the exhibition “Art without Borders. Artists of the Orenburg Region “. It presents the works of several generations of masters of the world-famous Orenburg school of painting.
The flourishing of this school can be attributed to the middle of the 19th century. Since 1856, a society for the encouragement of artists began to operate actively in the city. Wealthy residents provided material support to local painters and acted as organizers of exhibitions and vernissages. Largely thanks to local patrons of art in the Russian art of the late XIX – early XX century, the work of artists of the Orenburg region took a special place. The pride of the school of painting became both the academicians of painting and the later Wanderers, whose life was inextricably linked with the steppe region and its capital. Lukian Popov, Alexei Chernyshev, Pyotr Shmelkov and other names of famous Orenburg artists have become firmly established in the history of Russian painting along with their contemporaries. Talented followers of such outstanding Russian masters as Valentin Serov, Konstantin Korovin, Ivan Shishkin revealed the poetics of the national landscape.
