State Biological Museum named after K.A. Timiryazevainvites to the exhibition“Flowers revived”dedicated to botanical illustration.

In European culture, the language of flowers was very popular in the 18th – 19th centuries. It was perfectly mastered by the French artist Jean Iñas Isidore Gerard, known all over the world under the pseudonym Granville. In 1847, the book “Flowers Revived” was published with Granville’s lithographs painted in watercolors. The funds of the Biological Museum contain 25 works from this book.

In lithographs, flowers are depicted as beautiful maidens. And each has its own character, its own story. Granville’s work is a floral fantasy. Old French illustrations have inspired contemporary Russian artists to create contemporary botanical drawings.
