On April 22, 2021, on the basis of the St. Petersburg Suvorov Military School, chaired by the head of the Main Personnel Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General V.P. Goremykin hosted a regular meeting of the Coordinating Committee on Military Education under the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS member states.
The meeting considered a wide range of issues related to the interaction of countries in the field of military education and training of personnel for the armed forces of the Commonwealth states.
The VI International Olympiad for cadets of educational institutions of higher education and the II International Olympiad for pupils of pre-university educational institutions of the CIS member states, held in March-April of this year, became the basis for discussing a block of questions dedicated to events of a competitive and creative nature.
Based on the results of their consideration, the heads of the delegations proposed to conduct the final stages of the VII International Olympiad for cadets in 2022 in mathematics in the Republic of Kazakhstan, military history in the Republic of Belarus, foreign language in the Republic of Armenia, computer science in the Russian Federation and military professional training in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The members of the Coordination Committee supported the initiative of the Russian Ministry of Defense to expand the system of international events among pupils of pre-university educational institutions of the CIS countries. In particular, the regulations on the International Olympiad for pupils in geography and the “Test of the Pen” literary competition were approved.
Also, the proposal of the Secretariat of the CIS CMO to hold in 2021-2022 the VI International competition of military scientific works of students and cadets, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the development of military cooperation of the CIS member states, was supported.
The participants in the meeting traditionally paid close attention to the current state and prospects of cooperation between countries on the training of personnel for the armed forces. An extensive program of visits by delegations to military educational institutions of the Russian Ministry of Defense located in St. Petersburg became a good information basis for a substantive discussion on this issue.
In the interests of further expanding international cooperation, the heads of delegations approved the proposal of the Russian Ministry of Defense to create an Association of pre-university educational institutions of defense departments of the CIS states and hold its organizational meeting in 2022 in the Russian Federation.
In general, a number of draft documents following the meeting of the Coordination Committee were submitted for consideration by the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS member states for a final decision.
As noted by the Secretary of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS member states, Major General Yu.A. Dashkin, one of the priority tasks for the further activities of the Coordination Committee is its participation in the implementation of the Concept of Military Cooperation of the CIS Member States until 2025 approved by the Council of CIS Heads of State.
The next meeting of the Coordinating Committee on Military Education is scheduled for 2022 in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
