Russia proposes to invite representatives of Uzbekistan, Serbia, Mongolia and other friendly countries to events held under the auspices of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), said Deputy Defense Minister Colonel-General Alexander Fomin.

According to him, Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu addressed his colleagues with such a proposal at a meeting of the heads of the military departments of the CSTO states held in Dushanbe.

“The Minister stressed that it is necessary to invite representatives of friendly countries, including Uzbekistan, Serbia and Mongolia to the events held within the framework of the CSTO. He suggested, through the working bodies of the Organization, to begin the formation of the necessary legal framework for this, ”said Alexander Fomin.

Russia, Sergei Shoigu said at the meeting, for its part, will continue the practice of attracting units and observers from other countries, primarily from the CSTO, SCO and CIS, to the annual strategic exercises of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

“This year it is the West strategic exercise. In addition, it is necessary to step up joint work in the field of security with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, ”said the deputy head of the Russian military department.

“There is already a positive experience,” the Russian Defense Minister said at the meeting.

“The Russian Defense Minister is confident that the implementation of these directions will serve our common cause – the preservation of peace and stability in the CSTO space,” the deputy head of the military department noted.

Alexander Fomin also stressed that the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation invited his colleagues to come up with a unified position at the Moscow Conference on International Security.

“In June we are holding the IX Moscow Conference on International Security. The Russian Defense Minister proposed to speak at this international platform from a unified position and demonstrate the commonality of our approaches to ensuring collective security, “added the Deputy Defense Minister.

According to Alexander Fomin, the CSTO colleagues were also advised to focus “on the development of the military component of the Organization.”
