The parties discussed issues of interaction in the field of ensuring freedom of conscience and religion of those sentenced to imprisonment and persons in custody, and spiritual education of employees of the regional department.

At the Diocesan Administration of the Yakut and Lensk Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, a working meeting was held between the Acting Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Vasily Sedrissev and Archbishop Roman of Yakutsk and Lensk.

In his speech, Vladyka noted that at all times great importance was attached to the organization of pastoral work in places of imprisonment, since imprisonment should not punish, but correct. To date, much has been done in order to jointly appeal to the spiritual principle of the condemned, but this is only the beginning of a long journey, there is still much to be done. In Orthodox churches and prayer rooms, services and rituals, events for religious education are held.

Vasily Sedrisev said that the clergy, under the leadership of the assistant to the head of the territorial body for organizing work with believers, Hieromonk Makariy (Zolotavin), positively influence the correction of convicts, nourish and educate them, help restore socially useful ties and prepare for release. An interreligious working group is functioning, which promptly resolves current issues and makes proposals to improve the work of representatives of traditional religions.

In addition, issues related to the spiritual enlightenment of employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and their family members, provision of religious literature and others were considered.

At the end of the meeting, the Archbishop of Yakutsk and Lensk Roman presented the books, which are a new translation of the biblical books of Ruth and Esther into the Yakut language, for libraries in correctional institutions.

The Acting Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) presented Easter souvenirs made by the convicts on a new laser-engraving machine.
