Horsemen in the uniform of military men of the Cossack cavalry units during the Great Patriotic War will take part in the Victory Parade on 1905 Square in Yekaterinburg for the first time. This was announced by Major General Rustam Minnekaev, Deputy Commander of the Central Military District (CVD) for military-political work.
“For the first time in the parade of the Yekaterinburg garrison, a parade unit in Cossack uniforms from the times of the Great Patriotic War with the banners of military units formed in the Urals will be held in the parade of the Yekaterinburg garrison,” said Major General Rustam Minnekaev.
He added that 11 horsemen would march across the 1905 square following the parade crews on foot, preceding the passage of the mechanized column.
“The inclusion of cavalrymen in the parade crew is intended to remind of the contribution of the Red Army cavalry to the victory over the enemy,” said Major General Rustam Minnekaev.
Earlier, the commander of the Central Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, said that this year, within the responsibility of the Central Military District in the regions of the Urals, Siberia, the Volga region, as well as at military bases in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, three military parades and over 50 solemn troop marches will be held.
In total, about 2.5 thousand people will be involved in the military parade in Yekaterinburg, including about 1.5 thousand from the Russian Ministry of Defense, about 130 units of military equipment and over 10 aircraft will be involved.
By the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the cavalry units of the Red Army numbered about 78 thousand people. It was the cavalry forces that from the fall of 1941 until mid-1942 carried out the main tasks of the mobile formations of the Red Army. Soviet cavalrymen covered themselves with unfading glory during the Belarusian, Lvov-Sandomierz, Jassy-Kishinev and Debrecen operations and other battles.
