The theater “Lenkom” will show the performance“Jester Balakirev”directed by Mark Zakharov. The plot of the play by Grigory Gorin has a documentary basis to a certain extent.

In the 18th century, there really was a real Balakirev, enlisted in 1715 as a soldier of the Preobrazhensky regiment. Peter the Great then invented and performed various tricks. In 1719, the court jester Balakirev conveyed messages to the imperial nobles and, as a confidant of Catherine I, became aware of her relationship with the chamberlain Willim Mons. The emperor soon found out about their love affair. After Mons was executed, Balakirev was arrested.

In 1740, the “Collection of Balakirev’s jokes” was published. The years made their protagonist a witty jester who risked telling the formidable monarch what the majority preferred to keep silent about.

The play is attended by: Maria Mironova, Victoria Solovieva, Viktor Rakov, Sergei Yuyukin, Tatiana Kravchenko.
