Servicemen of the engineering units of the Eastern Military District set up a pontoon crossing over the mountain river Dzhida near the settlements of Dyrestui and Zarubino.

For the fourth year in a row, military engineers have come to the aid of local residents by organizing a pontoon crossing, which is the only one. A dilapidated wooden bridge that existed before collapsed into the riverbed long ago.

To accomplish the task, the servicemen on the KrAZ-255B heavy off-road military equipment made a march of about 200 km from the point of permanent deployment to the Dzhida region. Then military engineers fulfilled the standards for dropping pontoon links and guiding the crossing.

Complicated work in the area of the crossing of the river speed of the river – about 1.2 kilometers per hour.

The length of the pontoon ferry was more than 100 meters; a stock of pontoon links was created for its extension in case of a rise in the water level. Work has been carried out to organize access roads for both pedestrians and vehicles.

The military personnel will organize a commandant service in order to ensure the regulation of road transport and daily control of the state of the established crossing.

The construction of a pontoon ferry will greatly facilitate the life of the local population, now residents of the village of Zarubino can visit the regional center, medical institutions, freely deliver food, fuel and lubricants, receive mail in time and, if necessary, call emergency services.

The bridge will function until late autumn of this year.
