On April 29, at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States, ML Ebrard Casaubon, made a speech on the topic: “Mexico’s foreign policy priorities.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico M.L. Ebrard Casaubon was on a visit to Moscow at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

Mexico is one of Russia’s leading partners in the Latin America and Caribbean region. We work closely at the UN (Mexico was elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (for 2021-2022), the Human Rights Council (for 2021-2023) and ECOSOC (for 2021-2022). Our states are active participants G20 and APEC We maintain fruitful contacts with Mexico City as one of the leaders in regional integration processes, primarily in the Community of Latin America and the Caribbean (rotating chairman until 2022).

An active political dialogue is developing between Russia and Mexico at various levels. Over the 130 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations (December 11, 1890), extensive experience of cooperation has been accumulated.

M.L.Ebrard Kasaubon answered numerous questions from young diplomats and listeners.

A separate meeting of M.L. Ebrard Kasaubon and the Rector of the Academy A.V. Yakovenko also took place, during which the results of the visit of the Minister to Moscow were discussed.

The parties also touched upon global trends in world development (including the climate agenda) and prospects for the development of Russian-Mexican relations. AV Yakovenko told the Minister about the preparation of the report “Diplomat 2050” by the Academy. In this context, M.L. Ebrard Kasaubon shared his thoughts on the skills and tools that a modern diplomat must possess in order to work effectively in the 30-year horizon.
