The wingspan of the bird is 10 centimeters, and it weighs only five to six grams.
In the natural-historical park “Kuzminki-Lyublino” experts of Mospriroda noticed the smallest songbird in Europe – the king. She settled in a willow grove on the banks of the Upper Lublin pond.
The yellow-headed beetle (Regulus regulus) got its name due to the bright yellow stripe on the head, “crown”. This tiny bird looks like a ball with soft fluffy plumage, a small tail, its neck is barely visible. The wingspan is 10 centimeters, and it weighs only five to six grams.
Most often, the kinglet builds a nest in dense needles. If necessary, it can hang upside down on branches. The female incubates about a dozen eggs, usually white with a reddish tinge and spots, while the male feeds his girlfriend (also within a week after the chicks hatch). Then both parents have to look for food.
Due to their small size and high metabolic rate, beetles are forced to constantly be in search of food, even during demonstrative singing or building a nest. These birds feed on insects (as well as their larvae, spiders) and seeds from cones of coniferous trees.
Males sing when excited. You can hear them more often in the summer. Some elements of a quiet song sound in a very high key.
