In St. Petersburg, the main holiday of Orthodox Christians – Easter of Christ – was held in the restored Church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious in the historical building of the General Staff on Palace Square.

Today, this holiday has brought together believers of the military personnel of the Western Military District, civilian personnel, family members and veterans. The service was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Western Military District, Lieutenant General Aleksey Zavizion. Also, a ceremony of consecration of icons took place, which will later be transferred to the formations and military units of the district.

The temple in the name of the great martyr George the Victorious was erected by the famous architect of Russia in 1822 and became the first main temple of the Russian imperial army.
