The government has determined the parameters of the second stage of the expansion of the Baikal-Amur (BAM) and Trans-Siberian (Transsib) railways. The investment project passport was approved and signed by the head of the Cabinet of Ministers Mikhail Mishustin. This was reported by the press service of the government.

The throughput capacity of the BAM and Transsib by 2024 should increase by 1.5 times – up to 180 million tons per year, and the delivery time for transit container cargo on the West-East route should be reduced to 7 days.

The first stage of modernization of the two branches should be completed this year. In total, about 670 km of tracks should be built. At the second stage – more than 1300 km. In general, until 2024, the amount of financing, including funds for infrastructure for the transit of containers, will amount to about 780 billion rubles.

The schedule for achieving the target indicators of the investment project was formed based on the structure of freight traffic, technical equipment and work technology. There are 21 control areas in it. For each of them, target values of throughput (by stations, hauls and traction power supply), including those in freight trains, have been determined.
