In the main base of the Northern Fleet – the city of Severomorsk, the traditional May track and field relay called “Vase of Spring”, which has been held in the Navy since 1956, took place. It was attended by servicemen from the crews of surface ships and coastal units, as well as aviation and air defense units stationed in the garrison.

The sailors and foremen of the Pyotr Veliky heavy nuclear missile cruiser, the Marshal Ustinov missile cruiser, the Admiral Ushakov destroyer, the Vice-Admiral Kulakov and Severomorsk large anti-submarine ships competed with the aviators of a separate mixed air regiment, military air defense soldiers engineers and signalmen.

Competitions were held on the main square of the city of Severomorsk, named after the famous sea fighter pilot, Twice Hero of the Soviet Union Boris Feoktistovich Safonov. Athletes ran one block until the intersection of Safonov Street with the street of another hero – Ivan Sivko and returned back, passing the baton to the next participant in the race.

According to the results of the competition, out of nine teams, the athletes of the separate naval engineering regiment became the best, aviators took the second place, and the naval sailors of the destroyer “Admiral Ushakov” closed the top three.

The rewarding of the athletes was conducted by Colonel Pavel Koshkarev, assistant to the fleet commander, head of physical training and sports of the Northern Fleet.

After the medal ceremony, all the participants in the relay and the judges visited the exhibition of the Russian Geographical Society, which continues to work until May 8 at the Severomorsk House of Fleet Officers.
