Foreign filmmakers will be able to reimburse part of the cost of filming made in Russia. Such a rebate program was launched by the Ministry of Economic Development together with the Russian Export Center (REC) within the framework of the international cooperation and export national project.

The compensation itself will be provided to Russian cinematography organizations – up to 40% of the costs of producing audiovisual products by foreign film or animation companies in the Russian Federation. The condition for reimbursing part of the costs will be the hiring of a local contractor for service work, explained the head of REC Veronika Nikishina.

According to the Deputy Minister of Economic Development Vladimir Ilyichev, this, firstly, will give an impetus to attracting Russian specialists and companies for the filming of foreign films and TV series. Secondly, it will create a base for a new direction of domestic and inbound tourism – tours to places of nature filming. The annual financing of rebates will amount to 100 million rubles until 2024, the REC said. The Expert Council will select applications.

Programs, when countries provide favorable conditions for filming films on their territories, operate in the Czech Republic, Serbia, Estonia, Georgia, Colombia and other countries, allowing to attract millions of dollars of investment in the local economy.

In Russia, the rebate program was developed at the end of 2019. However, the selected projects could not use it due to the pandemic, and the allocated 70 million rubles were distributed within the national project.
