Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral agricultural cooperation with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to the Russian Federation Christina Marty Lang. The meeting took place today at the Russian Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the Minister, the dynamics of the development of relations with Switzerland through the agro-industrial complex remains at a stable level. So, according to the results of last year, the turnover of agricultural products and food increased by 6% to $ 311 million. Over the four months of this year, mutual supplies increased by more than 20% and reached $ 110 million.

“We have good opportunities for further development of trade, including increasing the share of agricultural products exported from Russia. A good example is the increase in the volume of supplies of our wheat to Switzerland this year. We are interested in increasing exports of other types of grain, as well as fat and oil, fish, confectionery and alcoholic beverages, ”noted Dmitry Patrushev. In order to intensify cooperation, at present, the final stage is the coordination of a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding in the field of agriculture.

Another topic of the meeting was interaction in the field of veterinary and phytosanitary supervision. In particular, directives are currently being formed to control Swiss enterprises supplying products of animal origin to Russia.

In addition, within the framework of the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation in the field of agricultural education and training, as well as outlined new promising areas of interaction.
