In the branch of the Central Naval Museum named after Emperor Peter the Great on the cruiser “Aurora” opened another temporary flat exhibition “Naval education in the USSR. The history of the creation of high schools and the education of officers for the Soviet Navy. ” The exposition is designed to remind visitors about the naval education in the USSR and the history of the creation of the Higher Naval Educational Institutions.

One of the most important components of maintaining a sufficient naval potential of the USSR was the staffing of the Navy. Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union N.G. Kuznetsov, a monument to whom everyone meets at the entrance to the Naval Academy, left the following entry in his memoirs: “Personnel training is nine-tenths of the creation of a large fleet.”

The first training center that gave rise to, including the Soviet naval education, was the School of Mathematical and Navigational Sciences in the Sukharev Tower in Moscow. Its main task was to train naval officers. October 1, 1715 in St. Petersburg – on the basis of the senior classes of the Navigation School, the Naval Academy or the Academy of the Marine Guard was created.

The task of improving the most promising naval officers in exact and applied naval sciences was solved in 1827 by Emperor Nicholas I by the creation of Officer Classes. This was the beginning of the academic education of the officers of the Russian fleet.

In the first third of the 19th century, a network of naval educational institutions was formed in Russia, which included the Naval Cadet Corps with an Officer class and a preparatory department, the School of Ship Architecture, the Navigation School of the Baltic Fleets, the Nikolaev Navigation School, and the Naval Artillery School.

The experience of long voyages and combat operations in remote areas of the World Ocean demanded a deep, requiring a scientific approach, professional training of navigators and shipbuilding engineers. Therefore, in 1798, the navigator companies were transformed into naval schools with an expanded training program and a more advanced training and material base. In the same year, schools of naval architecture were created in St. Petersburg and Nikolaev. The formation of a network of educational institutions differentiated by specialties took place.
