On the territory of Chechnya, servicemen of the engineering company of the Southern Military District (YuVO) cleared more than 90 hectares of agricultural land from explosives in April and May this year.

Demining of agricultural and forestry lands in the Achkhoy-Martanovsky district and on the territory of the Achkhoy-Martanovsky forestry began on April 1. The engineering and sapper divisions of the Southern Military District will have to check more than 300 hectares of the territory.

The personnel of the sapper units perform tasks in the protective suits of the sapper OVR-2 “Sokol”. For demining, servicemen use IMR-2 engineering vehicles, and Korshun non-contact explosive device seekers.

The work involved demining groups of the motorized rifle unit of the 58th combined-arms army of the Southern Military District, stationed in Chechnya, as well as the crews of mine-detecting dogs.

The engineers of the Southern Military District began work on mine clearance and the complete cleaning of the area of ​​Chechnya and Ingushetia from explosives in May 2012. In total, it was planned to clear about 16 thousand hectares of agricultural land and forestry, but in 9 years the military personnel surveyed about 23 thousand hectares, discovering and destroying more than 40 thousand explosive objects (mines, shells, grenades and other ammunition, as well as improvised explosive devices).
