Russian Defense Minister and President of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) Sergei Shoigu expects that the “Most Beautiful Country” photo contest will become a prestigious photo contest at the world level.

“I really hope that our competition“ The Most Beautiful Country ”for prizes and nominations will go beyond Russia … And well-known photographers, famous masters will start taking part in our country,” Sergei Shoigu noted. “To make with us … a competition for the winners of competitions, including, so to speak, the winners of those competitions held by National Geographic and the BBC and many others.”

He recalled that the seventh contest “The Most Beautiful Country”, the results of which have been summed up today, is already international. “If before we had it in Russia, today it presents works from 18 countries,” he said, noting that the jury also includes representatives from Italy, Germany, and France.

Last year, 60 thousand images were submitted to the competition, this year – more than 65 thousand. “The photos are all amazing,” added Sergei Shoigu.

He also said that in the future, photographs from camera traps may be included in the competition. “There, animals, not knowing that they are being filmed, behave completely naturally. And, of course, there is something to see and what to appreciate, ”said Sergei Shoigu.

The photo competition of the Russian Geographical Society was first held in 2015. Any person, regardless of place of residence, citizenship and age, can become a participant in the competition. The only condition is that the photographs must be taken on the territory of Russia. The jury of the competition included Sergei Shoigu, cosmonaut Ivan Wagner, actor Sergei Garmash, famous Russian and foreign photographers.
