Servicemen of the tank units of the Russian military base of the Southern Military District (YuVO), stationed in the Republic of Abkhazia, have begun their first field trip in the summer training period at the Maikopsky training ground in Adygea.

For about a month, tankers will carry out various fire missions, including firing from guns of modern T-72B3 tanks on the move at emerging and moving targets; to destroy air targets from the Kord heavy machine gun. The average range to targets will be about 2 thousand meters, and the firing range in motion is 700 meters.

A feature of the training is the use of an inset 14.5-mm barrel mounted in the standard 125-mm gun, which allows you to use small-caliber ammunition instead of the main combat stock. Thus, the wear of the tank gun will be reduced and tank crews will be prepared for firing standard shells at a lower cost.

In addition, driver-mechanics will perform exercises on driving tanks on difficult, rough terrain with overcoming various obstacles.

During the field exit, each crew is assigned at least 20 hours of comprehensive training in driving combat vehicles and at least 20 hours of fire training. Every second lesson will be held at night.

At the end of the training event, tank units will conduct a tactical exercise, during which they will work out various types of combat. They will also perform live firing of tank guns at targets that mimic enemy light and heavily armored vehicles.

In total, about 100 tankers of the Southern Military District are taking part in the event, up to 30 units of military equipment are involved, including the T-72B3 tanks, which entered service with the military base in August last year.
