For reference:

On June 1, 1931, an experienced airborne detachment was formed as part of the Leningrad Military District to ensure the landing of units, as well as the transportation of personnel, weapons, equipment and cargo.

At present, the VTA is an integral part of the Aerospace Forces, is a means of the Supreme High Command of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and is intended for landing airborne assault forces, transporting troops and materiel by air, ensuring regrouping (maneuver) of troops, and performing other special tasks.

The military transport aircraft Il-76, An-26, An-22 (Antey), An-124 (Ruslan), An-12 and others are in service with the formations and units of the VTA. In total, the BTA operates 12 types of aircraft.

In the first half of 2021, the VTA command conducted more than 20 exercises of various levels. During this period, the average flight time per pilot was about 100 hours. All tasks assigned to the personnel during the training period were completed and performed with high quality.
