Dmitry Chernyshenko held a meeting with Tommaso Kalarko, head of the pan-European program for the development of quantum technologies Quantum Flagship

During the dialogue, the parties discussed the possibility of scientific cooperation between the European Union and Russia on the development of quantum technologies. Working together and building relationships with Quantum Flagship, one of the world’s largest quantum technology initiatives, will enable Russian research teams to interact more actively with the global quantum community.

Particular attention was paid to pilot projects with large European industrial customers and to promoting the launch of startups in the quantum industry. The Russian side spoke about the current development of quantum technologies in the country and the support provided to research centers, universities and industrial partners as part of the implementation of the approved roadmaps. The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation and reached mutual interest.

Quantum Flagship is a European program for the development of quantum technologies with a budget of about 7 billion euros. Tommaso Kalarko leads the initiative and work of the Consortium of European Quantum Industries, which includes about 70 large industrial companies.

“The Russian scientific school in the field of physics is one of the strongest in the world, and thanks to the merits of our scientists, we today have a powerful foundation in the field of quantum technologies. International scientific discussion and cooperation with European partners will allow us to more actively share the results obtained and accelerate the development of quantum technologies for both sides. The government fully supports the global scientific dialogue: we are open to proposals for joint research work and are ready to create all the necessary conditions for consolidating efforts in this promising area of scientific knowledge, ”said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

“I am impressed with the active government support for quantum technology. It certainly contributes to the development of international scientific cooperation and can bring visible results, ”said Tommaso Kalarko.

“Thanks to investments in the Russian Quantum Center, Gazprombank is today one of the largest commercial investors in quantum technologies in Russia. The RCC is progressively developing and becoming more and more attractive for investment due to integration into the activities of the international quantum community and work on the commercialization of quantum technologies. For Gazprombank as an investor, this is fundamentally important, and we consider the introduction of Russian technologies to the market, primarily the European one, as a priority task. The demand for quantum technologies is still at the stage of formation, and the volume of this market is still small, but if in the future Russian companies intend to occupy a significant share in it, then mutually beneficial partnerships need to be concluded today, ”commented Dmitry Sauers.

“Russian scientists have been actively working with European research centers and universities for many years. At the current level, when both Russia and Europe have launched quantum road maps, it is very important to institutionalize our relations, that is, to formalize them at the program level. This will facilitate communication and will definitely increase the effectiveness of interaction, ”emphasized Ruslan Yunusov.
