Decisions following a visit to the Kurchatov Institute

The preparation of a strategy for the development of so-called nature-like, or convergent, technologies is entering the home stretch. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin following a visit to the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” instructed to complete the revision of the strategy and submit it to the Cabinet by September 1. The Ministry of Education and Science will be responsible for this task.

The mechanism of operation of nature-like technologies is similar to the processes that occur in living nature. At the same time, the development of such technologies does not have a negative impact on the environment, therefore, it makes it possible to switch to more economical and safe principles of consumption of natural resources.

Development in the field of nature-like technologies is one of the main areas of work of the Kurchatov Institute. It was discussed during a meeting between Mikhail Mishustin and scientists. President of the Kurchatov Institute Mikhail Kovalchuk said that as part of the instructions of the head of state, the institute had prepared a concept of the strategy and asked for assistance in submitting it to the Government. Mikhail Mishustin instructed the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov to deal with the issue.

In Russia, on behalf of the President, a National Genetic Information Base is being created. Mikhail Mishustin instructed the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Finance with the participation of the Kurchatov Institute to determine the required amount of funds, as well as the sources of financing for this project. This work must be completed by July 30th. Also, by this date, the results of the consideration of the concept of creating a National Genetic Information Base by the Council for the Implementation of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the Development of Genetic Technologies should be submitted to the Government.

There are also instructions in the list that relate to infrastructure issues. So, the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Finance will have to prepare a “roadmap” for the modernization of pilot plants of the National Research Center and the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the SB RAS in 2021–2023 by June 15, as well as determine the sources of its funding. And by July 15, proposals on financial support for the completion of the commissioning of TNK Zelenograd should be submitted to the Government.

Mikhail Mishustin visited the Kurchatov Institute on May 18. The Prime Minister took part in the launch ceremony of the T-15MD tokamak thermonuclear installation and met with the research team of the Research Center.
