The crew of the rescue vessel “Communa” of the Black Sea Fleet (BSF) performed the descent of the underwater manned search and rescue vehicle “AS-28” in accordance with the combat training plan of the fleet forces in the summer training period.

As part of the event, the Kommuna crew went to the maritime combat training range, where they worked out the crew’s actions on preliminary and final preparation for the campaign, unloading the AS-28 apparatus into the water, its departure from the carrier vessel and the transition to the designated diving point.

Further, the “AC-28” calculation performed the submersion of the device to the test depth, tested the stability of the connection, and worked out the algorithm for laying on the ground.

The AS-28 apparatus in the area of the event was supported by the vessels of the Black Sea Fleet rescue squad.

For reference: “Kommuna” is the only operating vessel of the Russian Navy, inherited from the Imperial Navy and the world’s oldest operating vessel. In 2020, the AS-28 deep-sea vehicle underwent modernization and scheduled repairs at one of the shipyards in St. Petersburg, where modern traffic control systems, updated sound-underwater communications and video surveillance equipment were installed on it.
