Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko chaired the first meeting of the organizing committee for the preparation and holding of the Russian stage of the annual international Silk Way Rally.

The meeting was attended by Aide to the President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin, Deputy Minister of Sports Odes Baysultanov, President of the Association for the Support and Development of Motor Sports “Silkway Rally”, as well as representatives of the entities involved in the preparation of the event.

The dates of the rally are from 1 to 11 July, the grand opening is planned to be held in Omsk. The route will connect two countries – Russia and Mongolia – and will pass through the cities: Omsk – Novosibirsk – Barnaul – Gorno-Altaisk – Ulgiy – Khovd – Altai – Bayankhongor – Ulan Bator.

The Russian stage runs through the territory of four constituent entities: Omsk Region, Novosibirsk Region, Altai Territory, Altai Republic. The movement of the rally participants to the starting point of the competition and the return journey will pass through the territories of 14 regions of the Russian Federation.

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko: “The rally will connect the two countries and will be of particular importance – this year is the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mongolia. Representatives from 45 countries will take part in the event. More than 1.5 thousand people in total. Our main task is to carry out the necessary preparatory work, special attention, of course, to the issues of safety and compliance with sanitary standards in the course of the participants. The approved organizational plan includes 45 events, the implementation of which will be monitored by the Ministry of Sports. “

Igor Levitin appealed to the Motor Sports Federation, the Association for the Support and Development of Motor Sports, together with the Ministry of Sports, to give proposals on the development of youth sports in Russia.

As part of the rally, it is planned to hold a stage of the World Cup rally-raids of the International Federation of Motorsports (FIA) and a stage of the World Cross-Country Rally Championship of the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM). The sporting distance of the rally will be 3500 km, the total route is 5500 km.

The Silk Way International Rally is an internationally renowned annual motorsport competition held since 2009. The name emphasizes the Eurasian route of the rally and its connecting role for the countries of the region.

Participants are world-class teams: Red Bull KTM, Husqvarna, Honda, Yamaha, KamAZ-master, Mammoet Rallysport, HINO TEAM SUGAWARA, MAZ-SPORTavto, X-raid team, Toyota Gazoo racing, SNAG RACING.

Among the pilots – multiple winner of the “Silk Road” Vladimir Vasiliev, winner of 2018 Yazid Al-Raji, winner of 2019 Nasser Al-Attiyah, multiple participant of the Dakar and winner of the “Silk Road” 2016 in the truck category Martin van den Brink, the most titled motorcycle racer Kevin Benavides, multiple Silk Road winner Dmitry Sotnikov.

Calendar of the international rally “Silk Way” in 2021:

June 30 – July 1 – technical and administrative checks;

July 1 – ceremonial start of the rally in Omsk;

July 2–4 – sports grounds in the Omsk Region, Altai Territory and the Altai Republic;

July 4 – crossing the border of the Russian Federation and Mongolia;

5-11 July – sports grounds in Mongolia;

July 11 – finish and awarding of winners in Ulan Bator.
