Pontoon subunits of the Southern Military District (YuVO) formations, as part of the action dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, make a transition along inland waterways from their permanent deployment in the Kamensky District of the Rostov Region to Volgograd.

Engineers of the Southern Military District began rafting on June 1 along the Seversky Donets and Don rivers, through the Tsimlyansk reservoir and the Volga-Don canal into the Volga river. The length of the river route will be over 600 km.

The river expedition of the pontoon unit includes two ferries: a demonstration and a residential one. At the demo, an exposition of engineering weapons is presented, a residential ferry is intended for the residence of personnel and the transportation of material resources.

Throughout the passage along the inland waterways, the personnel of the units make stops along the route in the settlements of the Rostov and Volgograd regions, where military personnel participate in patriotic events and conduct excursions on demonstration ferries.

In the village of Romanovskaya near Volgodonsk, Kalach-na-Donu and Volgograd, military engineers will present exhibitions of modern weapons and military equipment. Some of the exhibits will be located on one of the ferries, the rest of the samples will be presented at city sites.

During the solemn events organized by the forces of local authorities, veterans and public organizations on the occasion of the meeting of the participants of the action, performances of creative teams from the military units of garrisons and junior detachments will take place in the cities. On the city squares and embankments, mobile selection points for military service under contract will operate, and military chefs will treat all participants in the action with army porridge.

By June 22, the pontoon units of the Southern Military District will arrive in the designated area, after which, together with the pontoon units arriving from the Central and Western Military Districts, they will parade along the historical memorial complex “Mamayev Kurgan”.

More than 150 servicemen take part in the transition of engineering units of three military districts of the RF Armed Forces, more than 100 units of military and special equipment are involved, including river and coastal units from modern pontoon fleets, as well as the latest tug and motor boats.

Also, during the transition, tactical-special exercises are held with each pontoon unit, in which servicemen will work out more than 30 special tasks for their intended purpose.
