Today, within the framework of the bilateral test tactical exercise of the diverse forces of the Northern Fleet to protect the Arctic borders of the Russian Federation from threats from sea areas, which started the day before, on June 7, in the Barents Sea, three groups of anti-submarine ships were deployed.
Anti-submarine ships as part of naval search and strike groups began to work out tasks to search for submarines of a simulated enemy using standard hydroacoustic weapons in the combat training ranges of the Northern Fleet.
At certain stages of this exercise, naval search and strike groups will interact with the anti-submarine aviation of the Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Northern Fleet. Anti-submarine aircraft will carry out several sorties from coastal airfields, and the Ka-27 shipborne anti-submarine helicopters will solve the tasks of searching for submarines, taking off from the large anti-submarine ship Severomorsk.
Small anti-submarine ships (MPK) of the Kola flotilla of various forces of the Northern Fleet “Yunga”, “Brest”, “Snezhnogorsk” and the MPC of the White Sea naval base “Onega” and “Naryan-Mar” also operate as part of the ship search and strike groups.
The exercise takes place in a two-way format. The submarines of the Northern Fleet counteract the shipborne search and strike groups, the crews of which are faced with the task of secretly launching a torpedo attack and hitting the naval grouping of the imaginary enemy.
The results of such exercises are summed up already in the base upon their completion after a thorough analysis of all reporting materials.
In the course of such maneuvers, the crews of anti-submarine ships and submarines learn to operate in difficult conditions, as close as possible to the conditions of modern naval combat.
Servicemen of coastal formations, more than 20 warships and submarines, about 10 aircraft and helicopters are involved in various stages of the bilateral test tactical exercise of the diverse forces of the Northern Fleet, which is being held under the general direction of Deputy Commander of the Northern Fleet Vice Admiral Oleg Golubev.
