On June 9, Moscow hosted political consultations between the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation V. G. Titov and the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden R. Rydberg.

Topical issues of Russian-Swedish bilateral relations, including the schedule of upcoming political contacts, were thoroughly considered. The sides stated their mutual intention to strengthen practical interaction, primarily in the trade and economic sphere, including the work of the intergovernmental Russian-Swedish Observatory Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

The attention of the Swedish side is drawn to the fact that the continuing unfriendly statements towards Russia by the Swedish authorities do not contribute to the development of bilateral relations and an atmosphere of trust in the North of Europe.

VG Titov and R. Ryudberg exchanged views on a wide range of international issues, including the situation in Ukraine, including taking into account the Swedish chairmanship in the OSCE, Russia-EU relations, Middle East settlement and a number of other issues.

Special attention was paid to strengthening security and stability in the Baltic Sea region, as well as interaction in regional structures in Northern Europe and the Arctic with an emphasis on Russia’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021-2023.
