Colonel-General Gennady Zhidko, commander of the Eastern Military District (VVO), checked the progress of the preparatory work before the start of the reconstruction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline.

Servicemen of the VVO railway formations, who arrived in mid-April from the Amur Region and the Khabarovsk Territory at the Verkhnezeisk railway station in the Zeysky District of the Amur Region, completed the first stage of the planned work. Accommodation and food conditions for servicemen were provided, modular field bath and laundry complexes, mobile baths based on KamAZ vehicles and field bakeries were deployed.

At present, work continues on the assembly of block-modular townships at the facilities. The task of preparing sites for the erection of buildings and a tent camp at the stations of Ogoron and Verkhnezeysk was completed in May of this year. Block-modular camps will be commissioned at the end of June.

During construction, military railway workers use modern mining excavators, KamAZ-65222 dump trucks and GST-12 bulldozers. More than 450 military personnel of the Air Defense Forces were involved in the work, about 200 units of heavy special equipment were involved.

This year, the forces of the railway troops of the Air Defense Forces planned to carry out a set of works on the construction of the roadbed and the lengthening of culverts at two reconstruction sites – the Ulak – Verkhnezeysk and Ogoron – Moldavsky sections. It is planned to involve more than 900 personnel and about 500 pieces of equipment in the work.

The section for the reconstruction of the Baikal-Amur railway from Ulak station to Miroshnichenko station is 156 kilometers.
