The session of the simultaneous game was conducted by the guest of honor of IK-1, multiple chess champion of Syktyvkar and the Komi Republic, Andrey Isakov.
Since chess occupies a special place among other intellectual games in the institutions of the penal system, the leadership of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Komi Republic and IK-1 decided to invite well-known chess players of the Komi Republic to the colony.
So, on the eve of the celebration of the Day of Russia, convicted chess lovers were expected to meet and get acquainted with the guest of honor, multiple chess champion of Syktyvkar and the Komi Republic, Andrey Isakov. Behind the back of the candidate for master of sports there are many victories, both at republican tournaments and at championships in the Northwestern Federal District. The champion is equally masterful in blitz, rapid and classical chess.
This time, the honored athlete held a simultaneous chess game in the colony. At 10 o’clock in the library of the institution, Andrei Isakov was eagerly awaited by the 5 best players of the penal colony.
After the rules were announced by the President of the Chess Federation of the Republic of Komi, Vladimir Akulin, the floor was given directly to the champion, who wished everyone good games and, after a friendly handshake, proceeded to the simultaneous game session.
A serious battle unfolded on the chessboards. The seancer retaliated so quickly that some players did not have time to retaliate even after the professional returned from the lap. During the game, the convicts could not consult with each other, miss a move without the grandmaster’s permission, and also analyze the unfinished game on the board by moving pieces.
– The session went well. One can feel interest, excitement, serious experiences and even some strength. I will be very happy if today’s game will be remembered by the participants. In one of the games, I already assumed that the matter would be reduced to a draw, because the player had both a rating and such a good positional level, but, alas, today none of the participants was lucky, – Andrey Isakov commented on the game.
For convicts – amateurs of chess, this is actually the only opportunity to fight live with a high-level professional, moreover, in conditions of a large number of rivals.
– On this day I managed to play with the champion of the Komi Republic. I got great pleasure from the game, as the game was extraordinary, with a professional. I learned a lot of new things, – said the convicted Konstantin Magirko.
As the convict admitted, he became interested in chess while in prison. Konstantin is sure that this game has a positive effect on mental development, so he gathers with other convicts at the chessboard once a week.
It should be noted that at the end of the simultaneous game session, the champion of the Komi Republic and the president of the Chess Federation of the republic willingly gave a master class in chess. In conclusion, the convicts thanked the administration of the colony for organizing the event with the participation of the athlete and expressed their hope for a new meeting for the next session of the simultaneous game.
