Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko held a meeting on the development of agriculture for the coming years. During the meeting, the state of the agricultural sectors was analyzed, possible long-term measures of economic support and expansion of commercial production of crop, livestock and aquaculture were discussed.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev, Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko, the Russian agro-industrial complex has passed the peak of the pandemic with dignity, agriculture has shown growth in many respects. At the same time, as the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized, the industry faces ambitious tasks today. “Over the past 20 years, there has been an accelerated growth of domestic agriculture. Russia not only provides itself with food, but also achieves record export figures – last year we were able to increase exports to $ 30.5 billion. In addition, according to the results of last year, for the first time in the modern history of Russia, the export of agricultural products exceeded imports. The task for the next decade is to enter the top 10 countries of the world – food suppliers, ”said Victoria Abramchenko.

One of the important areas of work, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, concerns the transition to intensive development of agriculture. In addition, it is necessary to continue to increase the rate of production, for this it is necessary to bring into circulation at least 13 million hectares of new agricultural land, as well as to lay down new investment projects. For example, for the first time in history, in 2020, fruit production in the North Caucasus Federal District exceeded 550 thousand tons; over the past five years, production in this territory has quadrupled. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, it is necessary to continue laying gardens and greenhouses, to implement local projects with high production potential.

Another direction is associated with the need for accelerated scientific and technological development. As the Deputy Prime Minister noted, during the pandemic due to disruptions in supply chains, most countries in the world have shown their vulnerability. Therefore, it is necessary to work to reduce import dependence on seeds, plant protection products, and genetic material. You should also concentrate on creating the so-called. A “veterinary shield” that ensures the safety of the entire food chain.

The development of support measures was also discussed at the meeting. Today, within the framework of the state program for the development of agriculture, there are a number of mechanisms aimed at increasing the investment attractiveness of the agro-industrial complex, including concessional lending, reimbursement of part of capital costs. Also, investment activity of small businesses is being stimulated within the framework of grant support for Agroprogress farms and agricultural consumer cooperatives. In 2021, it is planned to implement more than 330 such projects, within the framework of which an increase in the volume of agricultural production by at least 6% will be ensured, as well as jobs in rural areas will be created. As noted at the meeting, for further development it is advisable to develop deep processing and pay special attention to the sub-sector of the food and processing industry.

In addition, during the meeting, the current situation in agriculture was discussed. On behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade together with the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia must submit proposals to the Government aimed at stabilizing prices for mineral fertilizers. The measures should stabilize the situation and provide farmers with affordable mineral fertilizers for winter and spring sowing. The decrease in the use of mineral fertilizers will directly affect the yield of agricultural crops, and will negatively affect future harvests.
