Military engineers of the pontoon-ferry unit of the engineering unit of the Southern Military District (YuVO), making the transition along inland waterways as part of the patriotic action “Alloy Memory” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, arrived in the village of Pyatimorsk, Volgograd Region.
Engineers of the Southern Military District will present an exhibition of modern models of military equipment and weapons. In addition, two ferries will be the place for the excursion, one of which is equipped for the residence of military personnel during the rafting period on the waterways of the Rostov and Volgograd regions, and the second one presents samples of engineering equipment, including a sapper suit, mine detectors, mine layouts, etc.
Artistic groups and artists will perform Cossack dances and a medley of songs of the war years, and the presenters will tell about significant historical events of the Great Patriotic War, in which the engineering units of the Red Army distinguished themselves.
Modern engineering and assault units of the Southern Military District brigade will demonstrate their professional skills to the guests of the action.
The musical accompaniment of the solemn event will be provided by the orchestra of the compound.
On June 1, military engineers of the Southern Military District set off along the rivers of the Rostov and Volgograd regions from the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, at the moment they have covered more than 520 km. Then the pontoons will make a stop in Volgograd.
Volgograd is the final stop of the water route of the pontoon boats of the Southern Military District. “Rafting of Memory” will end in the Volgograd reservoir, where the engineering units of the Western, Central and Southern military districts will meet to participate in the military-historical reconstruction of the Soviet troops crossing the Volga during the Battle of Stalingrad.
