In the Leningrad Region, transport aviation pilots of the Air Force and Air Defense Association of the Western Military District (ZVO), as part of training flights, landed on an unpaved runway.

The crews of the An-12 and An-26 transport aircraft have worked out the technique of takeoff and landing on a conventionally damaged runway. The difficulty of landing an unpaved runway is that pilots must independently calculate the ratio of aircraft weight, speed and leveling height before touching the runway. The density of the soil is significantly different from the density of the standard concrete runway.

In addition, the transport crews performed scheduled flights along a given route day and night. In total, 3 flight shifts were performed, the pilots flew over 30 flights.
