In the Northern Fleet, a tactical flight exercise of a separate mixed air regiment was held to provide long-range anti-submarine protection of the fleet forces. More than thirty crews of anti-submarine and military transport aircraft were involved in the exercise. They practiced bringing to the highest degree of combat readiness, withdrawing forces from the attack of a simulated enemy and dispersing to alternate airfields, and also performed a full range of anti-submarine missions in the Barents Sea.

The crews of the Il-38 and Tu-142 aircraft in the naval combat training grounds of the fleet worked out the search, detection and conditional destruction of nuclear submarines and the actual setting of barriers from radio acoustic buoys. The exercise was also attended by the crews of nuclear submarines of the Northern Fleet’s submarine forces, performing combat training tasks in the Barents Sea. They played the role of a conditional underwater enemy, which the naval pilots were supposed to detect and conditionally destroy.

At the Lumbovsky training ground, located on the coast of the Kola Peninsula, anti-submarine pilots performed combat exercises using aviation anti-submarine weapons. They worked out the bombing of depth bombs at target positions at the sea range.

According to the preliminary assessment of the command of the Northern Fleet, all the tasks set for the flight tactical exercises of anti-submarine aviation were successfully completed.
