In the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kubinka – the Main Church of the Armed Forces of Russia – an action “Candle of Memory” was held, timed to the anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and dedicated to those who fell in the struggle against fascism.
As part of the action, at exactly 4 in the morning, servicemen set candles with a fire taken from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the monument to the Mothers; they also lit a fire of memory at the monuments with land specially brought to the museum from the places of the most fierce battles of the Great Patriotic War.
In the memorial part of the museum complex, along the walls, there are monuments with shell casings for the 57-mm ZIS-2 anti-tank gun. There are more than 15,000 such cartridges in total. All of them are filled with earth from the burial sites of Soviet soldiers.
The earth was collected not only in Russia, but all over the world, where there is at least one buried Soviet soldier. Each cartridge case is signed with an indication of the place where it was brought from. More than 40 states donated handfuls of land from the burial sites of warriors on their territory.
The “Candle of Memory” action was also held throughout Russia. Residents of different cities of the country honored the memory of the victims and at dawn lit candles in memory of those who did not return from the war.
On the night of June 22, a memorial service was held in the Main Church of the RF Armed Forces in memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War.
For the solemn ceremony and transportation of a particle of the Eternal Flame, domestic specialists from the joint-stock company “MOSGAZ” have developed and manufactured unique equipment that ensures its safety:
a portable gas burner device for transporting the flame, torches for transferring the flame to the memorial, stably functioning in any weather, as well as devices that are able to ensure the safety of the particles of the Eternal Flame on board the aircraft.
