With a minute of silence, a memorial action dedicated to the Day of Memory and Mourning, on the day of the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, began at the House of Officers of the Western Military District in St. Petersburg.

During the event, a church prayer service was held in memory of those killed during the Great Patriotic War: at the fronts, in the territories occupied by the Germans, in concentration camps, in besieged Leningrad.

Interactive zones were located along the facade of the Officers’ House: a museum exhibition with unique exhibits from the beginning of the war, a real border post and a rare Maxim machine gun, an exhibition of posters, newspapers and books published in 1941-1943. In the posters of the House of Officers, one could see rare posters of the beginning of the war. On the steps of the main entrance, the honorary watch of memory was carried by reenactors in military uniform of the beginning of the war and cadets of the Mikhailovskaya Military Academy.

Everyone walking along Liteiny Prospekt that day could join the action and share their thoughts and feelings about the tragic beginning of the war in the Book of Memory.
