Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak held a visiting meeting at the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” on the program “Development of equipment, technologies and research in the field of atomic energy use in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024”.
The program “Development of equipment, technologies and research in the field of atomic energy use in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024” was developed by the state corporation “Rosatom” together with the NRC “Kurchatov Institute”, the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation in in accordance with the presidential decree of April 16, 2020. The passport of the program was previously approved at a meeting of the Presidium of the Presidium of the Presidential Council for Strategic Development and National Projects.
As the Deputy Prime Minister noted, the program includes a large-scale complex of measures implemented in priority areas of nuclear science, engineering and technology. “In accordance with the program, new advanced technologies, new materials, samples of new equipment, a program of technical re-equipment will be developed, including the physical start-up of the first power unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, the main stages of construction of unique complexes and infrastructure facilities in the field of nuclear energy and control of reactions of thermonuclear fusion, and the creation of a low-power nuclear power plant has begun, ”said Alexander Novak.
During the meeting, the regulation on the head scientific organization of the program was also approved, as well as the change in the passports of the program. The implementation of the program must be carried out with the direct participation of the head scientific organization, as which it is proposed to designate the NRC “Kurchatov Institute”, the vice-premier emphasized.
