On June 22, in the village of Mishukovo, Murmansk Region, the hydrographers of the Northern Fleet honored the memory of their colleagues who died during the Great Patriotic War. The ceremony took place near the memorial dedicated to the hydrographic vessel “Meridian”, which died in the first year of the Great Patriotic War during a raid by fascist destroyers to the Murmansk coast.

The event was attended by servicemen and civilian personnel of the Hydrographic Service of the Northern Fleet, residents of the village, among whom were close relatives of the participants in those events, as well as representatives of the Russian Geographical Society.

The funeral meeting ended with the laying of a wreath and flowers at the plate with a list of the hydrographers who died tragically 80 years ago, who fulfilled their duty to the Motherland to the end.

During the event, the scientific director of the Complex Expedition of the Northern Fleet and the Russian Geographical Society “Remember the War” – the head of the Hydrographic Service of the Northern Fleet, Captain 1st Rank Alexei Kornis, handed a memorial wreath to the captain of the small hydrographic vessel “Nikolai Skosyrev” Nikolai Iotsuk. During the next stage of the complex expedition, the crew of the boat plans to find the hull of the deceased hydrographic vessel “Meridian” and lay a wreath there, as well as fill the capsule with water from the Barents Sea and deliver it to the memorial in the village of Mishukovo.
