The institute has the status of a state scientific center of the Russian Federation; it participates in the fulfillment of the state defense order. The institution is engaged in a full cycle of research required for the creation of aircraft engines and gas turbine plants based on them, and also provides scientific and technical support for products that are in operation. The organization is part of the National Research Center “Institute named after N.Ye. Zhukovsky “.

In Russia, only here can be carried out the most complex and energy-intensive tests of aircraft engines in terms of height, speed, temperature, pressure and humidity. It is one of the few centers in the world where sixth generation engines can be built.

Much attention is paid to the development of modern supercomputer technologies, mathematical modeling of the processes occurring in aircraft engines. On the basis of CIAM, a center for collective use with a total capacity of more than 500 teraflops has been created.
