In St. Petersburg, on the Day of Memory and Mourning, the Chief of Staff of the Western Military District, Lieutenant General Aleksey Zavizion, and officers (ZVO) laid flowers and wreaths at the main symbol of fortitude and courage of the defenders of besieged Leningrad – the memorial at the Piskarevskoye cemetery.

In addition, servicemen of the St. Petersburg garrison took part in a commemorative ceremony at the Serafimovsky, Nevsky, Bogoslovsky and Smolensky memorial cemeteries, as well as at the monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad on Victory Square.

On this day, in all formations and military units of the Western Military District, commemorative events were held with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the memorial complexes and monuments to the fallen soldiers, as well as meetings with veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
