Interaction in the military and military-technical fields is an important component of the entire complex of relations between Russia and Myanmar, Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday.

“We attach particular importance to today’s meeting, because for us Myanmar is a time-tested strategic partner and reliable ally in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region,” Sergei Shoigu said during a working meeting with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Myanmar Min Aung Hline. He is also the chairman of the country’s State Administrative Council.

Shoigu stressed that “interaction in the military and military-technical fields is an important component of the entire complex of Russian-Myanmar relations.”

The Minister of Defense also noted that “today the Armed Forces of Myanmar are one of the most effective in the region.”

“They are equipped with modern weapons and military equipment, and in this, Mr. Senior General, of course, your personal merit,” – said Shoigu, referring to Hline.

The Russian military department, Sergei Shoigu said, views this meeting “as an excellent opportunity to exchange views on the prospects for the development of our cooperation, primarily in the military and military-technical spheres.”

“We are determined to continue making efforts to strengthen bilateral ties based on the mutual understanding, respect and trust that have developed between our countries. We are always, as before, open for a good mutual dialogue on a variety of issues, ”said Sergei Shoigu.

At the beginning of the meeting, he greeted Hlein in Burmese, calling him a dear friend.

“Dear Mr. Senior General! Dear friend! I am very glad to meet with you and the delegation of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Moscow. First of all, I would like to thank you for the decision to personally take part in the IX Moscow Conference on International Security and speak at its plenary session, ”Shoigu said.

Russia’s help has made Myanmar’s army one of the strongest in the Asia-Pacific region, said the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Myanmar, Min Aung Hlain.

“Our army has become one of the strongest in the region thanks to the Russian Federation,” Hline said in talks with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in Moscow on Tuesday.

At the same time, he noted the personal contribution of the head of the Russian military department to the development of the Armed Forces of Mnanma.

“Thank you for that,” Hline said, expressing gratitude to Shoigu for the opportunity to meet in person and for the invitation to participate in the Ninth Moscow Conference on International Security.

According to the commander-in-chief, today’s visit confirms that the friendship between the two countries “continues stronger and stronger.”

Hline said that he had three or four questions to discuss in a personal meeting with Shoigu.

Further negotiations continued without the presence of the press.
